Results of the LVEE 2017

The 13th Linux Vacation / Eastern Europe conference took place at June 22-25 near Grodno.

Touring camp near Grodno attracted this year about one hundred fifty users and developers of free/open software from Belarus, Russia, Ukraine, Poland, Finland, Norway and Germany. More than 20 presentations and workshops have composed the program in the the following topics: software development tools and technologies, portable and embedded systems, system administration and networking, distributions and virtualization, and free/libre licenses and projects.

Block of free/libre projects, distributions and virtualization have included talks on FLOSS usage in Ukrainian universities, business-models of the commons related to libre licenses, user experience of FLOSS graphic editors adoption by users of their proprietary analogues, FLOSS-based geo-services, and LibreOffice development internals.

Networking and information security topics where covered by talks on multilayer and multilevel storage systems, alternative technologies of the secure web surfing, USB attacks, building and using server software under Android, Percona monitoring tools, configuration management with Ansible, and the Hubzilla decentralized network.

Software development related talks where discussing typical mistakes in the code submitted to a Linux kernel and the Taurus testing system. Embedded systems and hardware where represented by talks on fast USB gadget creation on the basis of GNU/Linux, building 3D scanners, Alt Linux port progress for the Elbrus 4C architecture.

By decision of the audience memorable prize for the best presentation whas taken by Krzysztof Opasiak, for his review of USB attacks.
