About the Conference
A regular international meeting and a conference named “Linux Vacation / Eastern Europe” is carried out in Belarus starting from 2005. The conference combines both communication and rest of the enthusiasts of free / libre software and is, for now, the main public event in the life of Belarusian open source community.
The LVEE conference traditionally takes place in the end of June – beginning of July.
Starting from 2011, the winter session of Linux Vacation / Eastern Europe – LVEE Winter is carried out in addition to the classic summer variant.
LVEE is targeted to provide experience sharing between the specialists at design, development, maintenance and adoption of open source solutions, and IT business representatives, attracting more wide subset of the IT community to the public dialog about the free / libre software abilities, problems of its integration and ways of their solving.
The conference is nonprofit. LVEE is organized by Minsk Linux Users Group with support of FOSS activists from other cities.
Tasks of the Conference are to give participants the ability of the experience exchange, to organize discussions on most urgent evolution directions and tendencies in the branch and calculated practical knowledge. Meeting is aimed to help in setting necessary contacts, providing development to the ideas, acquiring support of the open source community.
The Conference covers a wide range of platforms – from workstations and servers, including virtualization-based ones, to embedded systems and mobile devices. The subjects traditionally include following directions:
- development and testing of free software,
- administrating systems based on it,
- training specialists in free software technologies,
- adaption experience of the open source solutions,
- the role of free / libre technologies in the evolution of corporate and state IT systems,
- legal and organizational peculiarities of the free software usage.
All other directions related to free / open source software are welcome to extend listed subjects.
Recommended Conference languages are Russian, Belarusian and English.
Abstracts of the LVEE and LVEE Winter presentations are placed on the website in public access before the conference (with following additions of multimedia materials, slides and videos), as far as published in a printed book before summer LVEE.
This year LVEE will take place near the city of Grodno, at August 25–28, 2016.
The types and terms of payment for LVEE are available in the Payment section.
The sum includes expenses for accommodation and meal (breakfast, dinner and supper), transportation from Minsk to the Conference place and backward, as far as additional LVEE attribution. Authors of reports, sponsors representatives and the press are free from paying listed fee.
August, 11 is a deadline for participation requests. August, 6 is a deadline for abstracts submission.
